COOUP Journal · For creators · 4-minute read
Someone asks where you found your bag. A friend remembers the notebook you showed them. A question beneath a video turns into a conversation about something you use.
Your first product recommendation can begin in that familiar place: noticing something useful and explaining why it caught your attention. You do not need to sound like a brand. You need to give another person enough information to decide whether the product belongs in their life.
Start with one product, one audience and one clear reason to share. A thoughtful first post gives you something to learn from while keeping your own voice at the centre.
Choose something you have a reason to care about
Consider the subjects you already enjoy discussing. Perhaps you explain everyday outfits, make things by hand or help people organise a small home. Choose a product that belongs naturally in those conversations.
Ask yourself what you would want to know before buying it. The answer may be a measurement, a material, a care instruction or a detail that makes it useful in a particular situation.
Be precise about what you know. If you have used the product, describe your actual experience. If you have only read its details, say what interests you without implying that you have tried it. Your audience should be able to tell the difference.
You can pass on an opportunity when the fit is unclear. Having a choice is part of making a recommendation your own.
Give the post one useful job
Decide what someone should understand after reading or watching. “See this product” is a starting point. “Understand whether this bag fits their daily routine” gives your explanation a clearer purpose.
Build the recommendation around three simple parts: who it may suit, the detail that matters and what someone should check before choosing it.
For example, a bag recommendation could focus on its listed measurements and suggest comparing them with what someone carries. That is more helpful than calling it perfect for everyone. Only include the measurements or features that are correct for the actual product.
Use clear product imagery you have permission to share, supported by accurate available details. You do not need to hold or model the product to explain why it interests you. Check the final photo or video on a phone so the relevant detail and any text remain clear.
Explain the commercial connection plainly
If you may earn from the recommendation, tell people clearly where they can see it before deciding to act. Use the platform's relevant disclosure tools and plain wording that explains the connection. Keep that information close to the recommendation.
Understand the offer yourself before sharing. Check the creator reward, any conditions and what the customer will see after following the link. Avoid promising a discount unless it is available and applies as described.

Check the path from your post to the product
Open the correct sharing link and check its destination before you publish. Confirm that the product matches your post and that its current details support what you have said.
Read your caption aloud. Remove anything you would never say in conversation. Replace broad praise with the useful detail behind it, and give the person one clear next step.
You might explain that the link leads to the product details, where they can check size, colour or availability. Keep the choice theirs. A recommendation can be useful even when someone decides the product is not for them.
Make room for the conversation afterwards
When someone asks a question, answer what you know. Check with the brand when you need a fact, and say when you are still finding out. You do not have to have every answer immediately.
Notice which details people found helpful and which needed explaining. A question about size might inspire a clearer photo next time. A quiet response may mean you need a different topic or a more relevant product. Keep your interpretation modest; one post cannot explain everything about your audience.
COOUP gives creators a way to discover products and earn when their recommendations lead to purchases. Bring your taste, your judgment and your own way of explaining things. Start with something worth sharing, then help someone understand why.
